Into the Grishaverse

Let me start with this: I watched the Netflix series Shadow and Bone before I knew it was a book series. I also admit that this tends to be my usual. See a show on Netflix, find it it’s based on a book/book series, and then read the book. Sue me. Lol

Now, onto the more serious matter: how was it? Honestly, I loved both. I have only read the first book in the series, Shadow and Bone, but I am very much looking forward to reading the whole series. Additionally, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a season 2 of the Netflix series. They really did a great job of telling the story and developing a connection with each of the characters.

Let’s give credit where credit is due, though. They had great source material to work with and I am so happy that, while the show dis take some artistic liberties, it did stay true to the overall story, characters, and captured the emotional turmoil that our main character, Alina, goes through.

Also, both the show and the book are blissfully binge-worthy. Now, it’s been a few months since I watched the show, but, if memory serves, I watched through it in a day or two. As for the book, while it looks lengthy, it is (or was for me) a quick and enjoyable read. I started it around 14:30 (2:30pm) on a Saturday and finished it before 10:30am on the following Monday. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I started writing this review on my phone while on the way to work, and I have never worked on my blog from my phone before. I was so focused that I actually missed my stop and had to turn around (not my proudest moment). Thankfully, I had left a bit early to run some errands, so it wasn’t an issue.

Anyway, I won’t give away too much of the plot, but I will tell you that, in the Small Science, like calls to like. And in the spirit of that, for any of you who also enjoy fantasy, I call to you to give this, the Grishaverse, a try.

I know I will be diving even deeper as soon as I get my hands on the next book in the series.
